“By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.” Catechism, 1499

Who can receive this sacrament? “Any member of the faithful can receive this sacrament as soon as he or she begins to be in danger of death because of sickness or old age. The faithful who receive this sacrament can receive it several times if their illness becomes worse or another serious sickness afflicts them. The celebration of this sacrament should, if possible, be preceded by individual confession on the part of the sick person.” Compendium of the Catechism, 316.
¿Quién puede recibir este sacramento? “El sacramento de la Unción de los enfermos lo puede recibir cualquier fiel que comienza a encontrarse en peligro de muerte por enfermedad o vejez. El mismo fiel lo puede recibir también otras veces, si se produce un agravamiento de la enfermedad o bien si se presenta otra enfermedad grave. La celebración de este sacramento debe ir precedida, si es posible, de la confesión individual del enfermo.” Compendio del Catecismo, 316.
WHEN TO ASK FOR THE SACRAMENT?
If you know you will be hospitalized for a planned surgery you should contact the parish before you enter the hospital to arrange a time celebrate the sacrament. Often the Sacrament of Anointing can be celebrated after Mass. Call the Parish Office to make an arrangement for the Sacrament.
If someone is in the hospital, notify the hospital chaplain and they will make arrangements for the Sacrament of the Sick to be offered, or you may contact our parish office at 816-279-2594.
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
If there is an emergency and need immediate assistance for the Sacrament of the Sick, call the parish number (816) 279-2594 and choose the option if this is a sacramental emergency and requieres the immediate assistance of a priest.
¿CUÁNDO PEDIR EL SACRAMENTO?
Si sabe que será hospitalizado para una cirugía planificada, debe comunicarse con la parroquia antes de ingresar al hospital para programar una hora para celebrar el sacramento.
